Italy trip summer 2024

This summer, I went on a vacation to Italy with my family. Italy is a beautiful place to go, and the food was so good! Right now, I'm going to tell, or write, all about my experience in Italy.
Our trip was for ten days. We spent the first few days in Rome, the next few in Sorrento, then the last few in Positano. (But I can't forget our last day in Naples (or Napoli))

We started the first day in Rome with a trip into the Pantheon. The pantheon is one of the most well preserved ancient roman structures in Rome. One of the mysteries of the Pantheon was it's intended purpose. Many believe that it was a Christian church, but they don't know who was worshipped.
Inside the Pantheon was a beautiful dome. There is a hole in the top that lets some light in, and that seriously reminded me of that one Indiana Jones movie.

Lunch in Rome was delicious! I don't remember where we ate, but I do remember that the Pasta was the best I had ever eaten.

In the afternoon we went on a tour through the Vatican. The Vatican is a city-state in the center of Rome. In the Vatican are museums and other places of historical significance such as Saint peter's basilica and the Sistine chapel. The Vatican is the headquarters of the roman catholic church. Sistine chapel is where the Pope goes right after being elected. Sometimes the Pope holds audiences (which is one of the reasons many people visit)
The museums had statues of the roman gods. And if you have had an addiction to Percy Jackson in the past (cough, me, cough) Or even read the books, you know who they are. This is a sign to read Percy Jackson...

Michelangelo panted the ceiling and back wall of the Sistine chapel. It took him four years to paint the ceiling.  At first he declined the offer to paint the back wall because he was nearly blind at that point. Eventually he agreed and spent the next six years painting the back wall.

When I went inside the Sistine Chapel, to say I was amazed would have been an understatement. The paintings were HUGE and the amount of detail was insane. It was breathtaking. I felt the same way towards all the museums in the Vatican.

On the second day in Rome we went on a tour through the colosseum. We learned a lot about gladiators and how they lived.  I learned that the underground of the colosseum was shaped like a maze (I mean that is what I saw when I entered) I also learned that there were many floors of the colosseum for the different classes. With woman and slaves at the very top. And of course, we took many photos.

After the colosseum we went to a restaurant called the Royal Art cafe and the food was amazing!

After we had lunch, we went to Trastevere for one of my favorite experiences in Rome. The cooking class. It was less of the class, and more like making dinner as a family. By family I mean 3 or 4 different ones. There were around three other families with us during that time. We all made the pasta at one table, the sauce at another, and we even made peach gelato! We had made simple Ravioli and fettucine, with meat sauce and Tomato sauce for the vegetarians (My family and I) All of us sat on a long table and enjoyed our homemade delicacies. The adults were talking to each other, and my brother and I were talking to the kids.

The next day we took a train to Naples, and then we drove to Sorrento. That afternoon after checking into our hotel, we visited the old down.

The next day we took a day trip to Capri. Once we got to Capri we took a separate boat to the Blue grotto. We had to wait for a very long time before small row boats started to pick up some of the people from out boat. The rowboats went into the blue grotto and then stayed in the cave for around ten minutes. I was super excited when it was finally my family's turn. the water was literally glowing! I took so many photos and videos because it was actually GORGEOUS. The water was glowing because of the way the sun reflected off the water through the narrow opening, which I found really cool. The grotto was used as the personal swimming pool of Emperor Tiberius, unfortunately we can't swim in it any more, but how cool that would have been!

After that we just hung around in Capri for a little. Capri is such a beautiful place and I enjoyed it a lot.

Dinner that day was AMAZING! We had dinner back in Sorrento and it was one of the best places I had ever ate at. The line was super long, as in waiting in the line for two hours long. But the food was worth it. I would stand in that line all over again to eat there. Well, actually my dad was the one standing in line but whatever. This was actually like a birthday dinner because my bday was the next day, and it was the best bday dinner I had ever had.

The next day was my birthday. We went on a ferry to Positano. POSITANO WAS SO PRETTY AND COLORFUL!!!!! Since it was super hot that day, my brother and I stayed in the hotel room for a few hours to catch all of the Happy birthdays from friends and family.

The next day we explored Positano. POSITANO WAS ACTUALLY SO GORGEOUS. The buildings were colored really pretty and it all came together and it was so PRETTY! I can't even describe it right because it was so gorgeous. Dinner was at a place called Chez Black. Food in Italy is SO SO SO GOOD LIKE I CAN'T EVEN FIND THE RIGHT WORDS.

We also went to a beach club in Positano. It was so fun! We took a boat to the actual club and we spent pretty much the entire day there. The beach was super fun and I really enjoyed myself.

We spent a lot of time exploring Positano and going into numerous shops. We also ate out body weights of gelato.

After Positano we went to Naples. Let me just say this, THE PIZZA WAS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER EATEN. Walking in Naples was similar to walking in New York, but it had a different vibe, more friendly I guess. My mom gave my brother and I 20 euros each to spend on whatever we wanted. I got myself three rings and sodas, and I don't even know what my brother spent it on.

I was sad to leave Italy. Sure is was hot, but the new experiences were worth it.
