A Different Summer

 A Different Summer

The summer of 2021 wasn’t like any other summer I've experienced before. This summer a deadly villain called COVID-19 was taking over the world giving a sickness to everyone in its path. Luckily scientists and doctors were able to develop a vaccine which made it very very difficult for COVID-19 to give it’s virus to those who got the vaccine. But even with the vaccine my summer was different from the usual. In the first week school was out I had my birthday party. The theme was waterpark so everybody showed up in their swimsuits. There were water guns that we spayed each other with and then when to refill them at a wheelbarrow filled with water. There were also water balloons which we threw at each other making us more soaking wet than before. There was a racing slip & slide with 3 lanes so 3 of us could go at a time. Sometimes we did three at a time other times one at a time and we even went all at the same time! The cake was an Oreo ice cream cake so the cake part was chocolate and the ice cream was vanilla. There were Oreos on the top which a lot of kids wanted. That was my birthday. That was the only time I got to see some of my friends in person that week , I could still video call them but that wasn’t the same as actually SEEING them in person. At this time cicadas were taking over Virginia. Cicadas are these big bugs with red eyes and 4 wings, so as you can imagine they were CREEPY. Also did I mention that cicadas are COMPLETELY HARMLESS? Since I didn't want to go outside and chat with the cicadas, I spent my time either reading, doing Legos, or doing art. On Friday my family and I, hopped on a plane with 2 of our friends and their families and went to Turks and Caicos which is an island in the Caribbean. In the resort we stayed in, there was a water park that we went to EVERY SINGLE DAY! In the water park there were really big waterslides. On two waterslides, two people could go down at a time. On one of those to waterslides half of the water slide is closed and the other half is open, inside of the closed part there was a light show of glowing rings surrounding the inside. What me and my friends usually did was hang around in the pool or lazy river, either that or going on the water slides, sometimes we got cotton candy. A few days we had to go to the much dreaded “Kids Club” but we still got to go to the pool and water park. We went snorkeling, kayaking, and sail boating on this trip. On the last day we had ice cream to say goodbye to Turks and Caicos. That was my trip to Turks and Caicos. After Turks and Caicos I went to a summer camp at my old school. In the camp from 9:00 to noon it was learning time but after that it was just a big blob of free time. Every day we went to the pool and my friends and I raced each other, did breath holding competitions and played Marco polo and games like that. Every Wednesday and Friday there was a moon bounce and on the last Friday I was there, there was a water moon bounce which is basically a regular moon bounce but you add water to it. In the last week I was there, there was a junior Olympics in my class where three teams competed for the golden star trophies. My team lost if you were wondering. In the middle of the summer camp it was my Mom’s birthday. My Mom’s birthday was Bollywood themed so as you would expect there was a lot of dancing and really loud music. I was with my cousins either playing balloon volleyball, making stuff out of clay, or watching a movie. My brother and I made a board where the guests had to sign it with their names and a message. The cake was a Gucci cake where the cake part was chocolate and the icing was buttercream and fondant. I only had the cake part and the fondant because in case you didn’t know,  I do NOT LIKE BUTTERCREAM! Other than that the cake was delicious. That was my experience at my Mom’s birthday. So that’s how I spent my summer, It wasn’t my normal summer but it was just as fun.
